Colloquium (internal): Maria Ketzmerick: “We understand […] the only solution is dialogue and politics.” – The Anglophone Crisis, the Arria Formula Meeting as humanitarian response, and Non-western Actors

12.07.2022 16:15 - 17:45
S 21, GEO II

Abstract paper:
The paper examines the internationalized efforts to prevent violence in the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon focusing on hierarchies related to security, peace, and conflict. It will analyze the interactions between non-western actors, such as China, Russia, and Equatorial Guinea, and former colonial powers, such as France, Germany, and Britain in the Arria Formula Meeting in 2019. What (new) hierarchies can be observed and to what extent presents the Arria Formula Meeting the possibility to give actors from the Global South and NGOs a voice with regards to international peace and security? The paper delves into these questions by contributing to research on the practices and norms of intervention, statebuilding, and humanitarianism.
