100 years Black History Month Celebration Bayreuth

In honor of the 100th anniversary of Black History Month, Iwalewahaus announces “100 Years of Black History in Bayreuth” a landmark exhibition and cultural event that commemorates a century of storytelling, resilience, and artistic brilliance within the Black Bayreuth community.

From the  3rd February to the 28th of February 2026 at Iwalewahaus, the exhibition brings together an exciting selection of works by both established and emerging artists, with a special focus on student artists. The exhibition is curated by students of the University of Bayreuth form the African Verbal and Visual Arts (AVVA) programme. The exhibition features a dynamic range of artistic expressions, including painting, photography, multimedia works, and live performances, offering diverse perspectives on Black history, identity, and cultural memory in Bayreuth.

More than a reflection on the past, 100 Years of Black History in Bayreuth is a powerful call toward the future. For a century, art has served as a vessel for truth-telling, resistance, healing, and joy within Black communities. This exhibition celebrates that enduring legacy while amplifying the voices shaping the next hundred years.
