We are very happy to share with you that Prof. Dr. Jana Hönke was invited to participate in the conference ‘Die deutsch-französische Afrikapolitik im Zeichen der Zeitenwende‘/‘Franco-German Africa Policy at the Turning Point‘ on December 1 in Berlin. The event was organized by the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, the Institut Français des Relations Internationales and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability. In three panels, politicians, researchers and representatives from different German and French ministerial departments discussed the security situation in the Sahel Region, Africa policy in a new multipolar world order and the new EU infrastructure investment initiative ‘Global Gateway’ and its implications for Africa.
Prof. Dr. Jana Hönke was a panelist in the panel ‘Global Gateway and Infrastructure – a promising European offer to Africa?’ alongside Prof. Dr. David Luke and Emmanuel Baudran and discussed the topic of European-African cooperation as well as competition by other actors such as China in the area of infrastructure. In her presentation, she reflected upon how the EU Global Gateway Initiative compares with China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
