31 January: Talk with Dr. Katja Freistein
22.01.2024
Visuality and Emotions in Transnational Strategies of Rightwing Populists
We cordially invite you to our talk with Dr. Katja Freistein from the Centre for Global Cooperation Research. The talk is part of the colloquium "Transnational Relations" and will take place on Wednesday, 31st January, at 4:15 pm in S62 (RW I) or online.
As current trends of rising support for rightwing populist and far right parties in Europe show, their strategies of activating voters, setting the agenda within national (and transnational) discourses as well as creating some forms of identities around their nativist, xenophobic and misogynist agendas seem to work. While strategies are catered to some extent to domestic audiences, e.g. by drawing on cultural repertoires and specific affective registers, many similarities and overlaps can be observed that indicate transnational links and coordination between rightwing actors. In the talk, the focus will be on the role that visuality and emotions play in the strategies that appeal to broader publics and on the linkages between the strategies used by rightwing actors.
Registration is not required. We look forward to seeing you! For further information please contact us:
