Dams, Power, And the Politics of Ethiopia's Renaissance
by Tom lavers, Reader in Politics, Global Development Institute, University of Manchester
Dams, Power and the Politics of Ethiopia’s Renaissance examines the domestic and international political economy behind Ethiopia's ambitious dam-building programme, with a focus on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and its role in Ethiopia’s project of state-led development. Tracing Ethiopia's complex relationship with the Nile and the EPRDF’s drive for rapid socioeconomic transformation, the book highlights the successes and limitations of using hydropower to build a ‘green developmental state’ amidst political and economic challenges.
