Book ´Cadence of Life´ by Sheila Aketch Orero

We are happy to share the work from our colleague and chair member, Sheila Orero, 'Cadence of Life: The Impact of the Seventh-Day Adventist Religion on the Everyday Lives of the Maasai People in Arusha and Manyara, Tanzania,’ which has been honoured with the Springer Best Master’s Thesis Award and is now officially published.
Thesis Topic
This research began with a simple question: How does religion shape the everyday lives of a community caught between tradition and faith? Through ethnographic and qualitative methods, I explored the lived experiences of Massai Adventists, examining how they navigate a heterogeneous world. The study offers a decolonial perspective on concepts such as conversion, culture, and identity, drawing on the Maasai’s understanding of these concepts and incorporating their rich linguistic use of the Maa and Swahili languages.
