We extend a warm welcome to our new postdoc. At the beginning of the year, the chair announced two postdoctoral positions as part of the project “Postcolonial Hierarchies in Peace and Conflict: New Forms of Security Governance and Peacebuilding.” The first two-year position, on the topic of “South-South security arrangements and practices,” has been filled by Joshua Akintayo, PhD.

Joshua Akintayo completed his PhD at the University of Kent and holds an MSc from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Akintayo’s research focuses on security, (counter-)terrorism, including Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), conflict-related sexual violence, and peacebuilding. Taking a critical perspective, he examines both top-down and bottom-up dimensions of these issues, with particular attention to their governance, practices, transformations, and consequences in Nigeria and across Africa. His work has been published in leading journals such as the European Journal of International Security, International Studies Perspectives, Critical Studies on Terrorism, Peacebuilding, and Conflict, Security & Development. We are very pleased to have Akintayo join our team and look forward to the insights and perspectives he will bring to the project and the wider research environment at the Chair over the coming two years.
